I first heard about the Liebster Award about a year ago and I thought to myself, how do I get one of those? Well my prayers have been answered by A Side of Sunsets!
Any award that’s given peer-to-peer, encouraging bloggers to make friends is a positive thing, but there’s quite a variety of rules and guidelines over what to do once you’ve been nominated but since this one offers the chance to win a Go Pro and has the word ‘Official’ in it – that’s what I’m sticking with.
Let’s begin with the obvious, what the heck is a Liebster Award?
Straight from the horse’s mouth, well The Global Aussie actually, The Liebster Award 2017 is an award that exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.
I’d like to thank A Side of Sunsets for my nomination…
Que me, in an Ellie Saab ensemble holding a golden aeroplane making my acceptance speech. Don’t kid yourself, we’ve all dreamt about winning an Oscar or something. A Side of Sunsets, despite describing everyone’s favourite side dish, are a travelling duo of Californians who’s paths crossed one fateful day San Diego. The greatest thing is they have “no real intention of quitting the 40 hour work week and travelling for a living” and neither do I.

My 150-300 word friendship essay
There’s no one else I’d consider for this little friendsfest than Part-Time Passport. Not only is the lovely Jules also from Bristol, but she shares the same view that “It is 100% possible to make your travel dreams a reality without having to give up the things you love.” Like everything the Millennial Runaway stands for, Part-time Passport (perhaps a little more gracefully) shows you that with a bit of careful planning and a lot of passion, you can balance work, home-life and travel to achieve your travel dreams and create the life you love.
Write a 150-300 word post about your favourite blog that is not your own ✓ (according to word count it’s only 95 words but whose counting really?)
10 Random Facts About Me
Well, actually this one is apparently optional but since the general theme is that the person who nominated you poses 10 questions, I guess that’s where this fits in! So these are the questions assigned to me by A Side of Sunsets!
Who or what inspired you to start a blog? I actually starting travelling, unknowingly, when I embarked upon a Trek America tour in 2012. Shortly after I was booking two months in China. I did actually keep this blog during my time in China as a means of updating the family back home, but blogging was still a new-age idea and I kind of which I’d jumped on that bandwagon way back when but I was still trying to figure out My Space. I let the travel bug wander for a few years and then decided to bit the bullet and create a creative space so as to share my experiences.
If you could only go on one more trip, where would you go?
What are the Top 3 countries on your bucket list today? Thailand, Italy and India
Have you ever visited a place just because you saw it in a book or movie? What was that place? Actually, no. I am often inspired by posts on Instagram but it’s usually because that place was already on my list. Other than New York, because you’re lying if you haven’t watch a film that hasn’t wanted you to go to New York.
What is your absolute favourite blog you have ever posted? How To Travel with your Best Friend
If you could travel the world for one year with one celebrity, who would it be? Doug the Pug.
If you could speak any other language fluently, what would it be?
Whats your favourite thing about blogging? I like the sharing nature of blogging, that sense of achievement after putting yourself on a plane and saving the necessary funds to experience something new, and the support you get from other like-minded individuals.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting a blog? Just do it. Ignore the impostor syndrome. Ignore the infinite number of travel blogs in existence. Don’t do it for money. Don’t do it for followers. Do it for you.
Where have you travelled that exceeded your expectations? Budapest.
