Arriving at Chengdu with The Dragon Trip

On Friday we were up at 5am to watch the sunrise except that it was cloudy and rained instead. At 9am we caught the 1.5 hour bus to Guilin and then boarded the 25 hour train to chengdu.

We had quite a crowd on the train as a group of western people creates a lot of attention!

Chengdu is the capital of the Sichuan province, home to 14million people and over 2300 years old.

When we arrived in Chengdu the following day at 1.30pm we settled into Mr.Panda hostel, grabbed lunch, had a quick mandarin lesson and then we had a blind massage. (I thought I ordered pork for lunch and ended up eating pig stomach!)

The blind massage is fully clothed with no oil, and actually very painful, I endured a lot of slapping and punching! Ouch!!!

After the tortuous massage we felt it necessary to get a pedicure, my second of the trip so far.

The Sichuan province is all about the chilli, the home of spicy food. The locals argue that chilli is beneficial both in summer to cool you down, and in winter as a warmer.

According to Chinese legend, the chilli had medicinal properties and helps to protect against illnesses caused from damp conditions.
