Therme Bucharest Guide (2026): Prices, Zones, Tips & Is It Worth It?

Planning a visit to Therme Bucharest? Here’s everything you need to know, including prices, zones, tips and whether it’s worth it.

Therme Bucharest isn’t just a spa, it’s the most famous spa in Bucharest and the largest wellness and relaxation centre in Europe, and honestly, it feels like a holiday all on its own. With three distinct zones, more than nine pools, six saunas, four steam rooms and over 16 water slides, you’ll need a full day to make the most of it. It also happens to be Romania’s largest indoor botanical garden, home to over 800,000 plants.

It was one of the highlights of my trip to Bucharest, second only to this Eat With local dining experience I’ll never forget. If spa days aren’t typically on your travel itinerary, make this the exception. It’s like no other wellness centre I’ve been to, immersive, relaxing and totally unique.

The group plans to open a further wellbeing centre in Manchester, with the resort currently under construction and slated to open in 2027.

Is Therme Bucharest worth it?

Yes, absolutely. If you’re looking for something a bit different to your usual city break plans, Therme Bucharest is 100 percent worth visiting. It’s not just a spa day, it’s an experience, and easily one of the most unique things to do in Bucharest.

With multiple zones, indoor and outdoor pools, spa rituals and plenty of space to relax, it offers far more than you’d expect for the price. Whether you want to unwind, try something new or just escape the city for a few hours, it ticks all the boxes.

That said, it can get busy, especially on weekends, so if you can, visit earlier in the day or midweek for the best experience.

Getting to Therme Bucharest

Therme București operates a free daily shuttle from  Piata Romana, one of Bucharest’s central squares. There’s a clearly marked, purpose-built bus stop — just look out for the Therme branding. You can board the bus from any door, and there’s no ticket or check-in needed. Just hop on and you’re on your way.

  • Runs: Every 2 hours
  • First bus: Around 9am weekdays / 8am weekends
  • Duration: ~30–40 minutes depending on traffic
  • Return shuttle: Picks up from the same spot just outside the main Therme entrance

The shuttle bus runs Monday to Sunday with different timetables operating, so be sure to check the timetables before you go. The return shuttle bus stops at the same place you're dropped off outside Therme Bucuresti.

Uber is available in Bucharest. A one-way trip to Therme București from the city centre costs approximately 80–120 RON (€16–24), depending on traffic conditions.

Which Zone to Visit at Therme Bucuresti

When we arrived at Therme Bucuresti via the free shuttle bus service, the entirety of the city also had the same idea but.. it was the Sunday before New Years Eve so I guess we all needed a pamper session.

When we arrived inside the centre, we had to queue on the left for The Galaxy and on the right for The Palm and The Elysium. I'm unsure if this was due to the popularity of the place on the day, but keep an eye on the screen above the desks as to where you need to queue to enter your desired zone.

Choose How Long You'll Visit Therme Bucuresti

When planning your visit, you can choose from three duration options:

  • 3 hours
  • 4.5 hours
  • Full-day access

While the shorter time slots are great if you're on a tight schedule, I’d personally recommend going for the full day. I’ve tried the 4.5-hour option before, and honestly, it just wasn’t enough, there’s so much to see, soak in, and experience. If you’re able to, make a day of it!

How Payment Works: Wristbands & Purchases

Upon arrival, you'll receive an RFID wristband, which acts as your:

  • Locker key – each wristband is linked to your personal locker
  • Access pass – depending on the zones and duration you’ve paid for
  • Digital wallet – you can tap your wristband to buy food, drinks, or extras throughout your visit

You’ll pay for your ticket upfront when you arrive (zone + duration), and any additional purchases are settled at the end of your visit, either by card or cash.

It’s a convenient, cash-free system that lets you enjoy the day without worrying about your wallet.

Top Tips to Make the Most of Your Visit to Therme Bucharest

If you’re wondering about busy times, weekends and evenings are the most crowded, so visiting early or midweek is your best bet.

Stay Late and Relax

Therme is open well into the evening, closing at 11pm on weekdays and Sundays, and midnight on Saturdays. This gives you plenty of flexibility to visit after a morning exploring the city. Why not pair it with a free walking tour of Bucharest in the morning and then unwind at Therme all afternoon?

Therme București offers flexible hours to accommodate various schedules:

  • Monday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Friday–Saturday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM

Essentials: Flip-Flops and Towels

Flip-flops are mandatory in the shower areas, and you’ll need to shower before entering the pools. You can buy them on-site using your wristband if you forget, but bringing your own will save you time and money. Towels and robes are also available to rent, but again — if you prefer to save money, pack your own.

 Locker System

Upon entry, you'll receive an RFID wristband that serves multiple purposes:

  • Locker access: Your wristband is linked to a specific locker for storing personal belongings.
  • Cashless payments: Use your wristband to make purchases within the facility, settling the balance upon exit.
  • Zone access: The wristband grants entry to the zones included in your ticket.

The Use of Mobile Phones

You’re free to use your phone around the poolside areas, and yes — there’s free WiFi. However, phones and cameras (including GoPros) are not allowed in the water. Staff are quite strict about this, so keep your phone dry unless you're snapping pics from the edge.

  • Prohibited: Pools, slides, and saunas.
  • Permitted: Designated relaxation areas and restaurants.

Securing a Lounger

One of the best ways to enjoy your time at Therme is to have  a lounger to come back to between dips in the pool and trips to the sauna. Loungers are first-come, first-served, and they go quickly.

It’s common practice — especially among locals — to reserve a lounger by placing a towel or personal item on it before heading off to explore. I did the same with a towel and book, and it was left completely undisturbed. It’s an unspoken system that works, so if you see a free lounger, don’t hesitate to claim it.

Check the Therme Bucuresti Website for Occupancy Levels

Before you go, check how busy Therme is by visiting the official website. In the top-right corner of the homepage, there’s a live occupancy indicator showing how full each zone is. It’s colour-coded (green, blue, pink) and updates in real time — super helpful for planning a quieter visit or deciding which area to head to first. You can also check this directly in the MyTherme App.

Download the Therme Bucuresti App

The MyTherme App is your best friend during your visit. It gives you access to:

  • Activity schedules
  • Live occupancy updates
  • Zone access info
  • Notifications about limited-time treatments or events

While each zone has printed timetables posted nearby, the app helps you keep everything in one place without wandering around to check.

Don’t Miss the Free Spa Rituals

During our visit, I accidentally walked into an aqua aerobics class on my way to the pool bar — and honestly, I loved it. Later in a steam room, an attendant came in offering a sugar scrub and algae mask to whoever was seated. It turned into a full-on free spa ritual (just follow the crowd if you’re unsure!).

Tip: These free mini-treatments often have limited space, so get in early and claim a seat.

Head Outside (Even in Winter!)

Don’t skip the outdoor area, even if it’s cold out. The water is heated, and the underwater Jacuzzi loungers are dreamy on chilly evenings. There’s even a sandy beach area connected to The Palm, open seasonally — worth checking out if you visit in spring or summer.

Visit the Pool Bar

Yes, you can sip a cocktail in the water. Therme’s in-pool bars are iconic. The bar staff stay dry while you swim up and order — and everything is logged on your wristband for payment when you leave. Cocktails are reasonably priced, and you’re welcome to enjoy them while floating or lounging — it’s part of the experience!

Use the Website for FAQs & Info

The official Therme website has an English-language option and a robust FAQ section, so if you’re unsure about anything from what to pack to treatment prices, it’s worth checking before you go.
